Today is the
113th anniversary of the ANC's founding, and former journalist and novelist
Lesley Mofokeng, a journalism instructor at Wits University and a scholar of
Sol Plaatje, says the work of activists like Sol Plaatje should not be
forgotten. As the ANC commemorates this milestone, Lesley has called for the
contributions of key activists to be recognized, with a particular focus on the
legacy of Sol Plaatje. Mofokeng, who is also a Sol Plaatje scholar and
Journalism lecturer at Wits University, emphasized that celebrating the ANC’s
history must also involve honoring the efforts of the many individuals who
helped shape the organization and the nation.
