In
an inspiring initiative, Sol Plaatje Municipality peace officer Mosito Lepara
is spearheading a unique project to provide new school shoes to children in
need. Launched two months ago, Lepara's project operates out of the trunk of
his car, reflecting his dedication to making a tangible difference in the lives
of local students. Lepara's initiative began with personal donations and
sponsorships he garnered through social media platforms. His efforts came into
the spotlight when he offered a pair of shoes to a young boy who had walked
partway to school with friends but lacked proper footwear. This act of kindness
led to a surge of requests for shoe sizes through Facebook, prompting Lepara to
call on the community for further assistance. The peace officer is now
appealing to the provincial government for additional support to expand the
reach of his project. To further this cause, Lepara is organizing a fundraising
event in October. The event, set to take place at Mokone Car Wash, aims to
provide 1,000 pairs of school shoes to primary school children in Galeshewe. In
addition to the shoe drive, the event will feature a music extravaganza with
performances by local DJs. Attendees will be charged an entrance fee of either
two pairs of school shoes or a cash donation, both of which will directly
support the initiative. Lepara's project stands as a testament to the impact of
community-driven efforts and the importance of collective action in addressing
local needs.
