The MEC of the Department of Agriculture, Environment, Rural Development and Land Reform, MEC Mase Manopole, accompanied by the Executive Mayor of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, Queen Mogatle- Thoane and CEO of the Developmental Trust, Tumelo Mpolokeng, yesterday handed over Bonsmara Cattle to Five Senior Traditional Leaders in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District at the Lamus Auction Pens. According to an official statement by the department, this gesture was part of the Provincial Government's promise made to them by Premier Dr Zamani Saul earlier this year. The department says during phase 1 and 2 of Elevation of Traditional Leaders in May 2024, the Premier handed cattle to two Principal Traditional Leaders and yesterday MEC Manopole handed the  Bonsmara cattle over to the remaining Principal Traditional Leaders. The department says the Northern Cape House of Traditional Leader Chairperson Kgosi Pelonomi Toto also took the opportunity and voiced the lack of grazing land as a challenge. MEC Manopole reportedly emphasized that good working relation between government and traditional leaders will always yield a positive result and they commit to addressing all challenges that are raised.
