Police operation Shanela

The South African Police Service says during Operation Shanela, 336 individuals across all five districts of the province for various criminal offenses. Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock, the police spokesperson, stated that the operation ran from Monday, June 24, 2024, to Sunday, June 30, 2024, targeting contact and violent crimes in hotspot areas, leading to numerous arrests. According to Kock, the operation included 44 vehicle checkpoints and multiple roadblocks throughout the province, resulting in over 2000 vehicles and more than 6000 individuals being stopped and searched.
