A 32 year old man Simon Mans was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by Kimberley regional court yesterday for attempted rape and assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm. Police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Sergio Kock says the suspect accosted a 19 year old woman who was speaking on her cellphone outside a tavern in Goutrou, Hopetown on the 16th July 2023 at twenty five minutes to two in the morning. Kock says the suspect allegedly assaulted and strangled her and forcefully dragged her to a toilet where he attempted to rape her. According to information, the victim fought him off and managed to run away and alerted the police.
