Provincial police arrested 1850 perpetratores and 1 688 wanted suspects

The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape says they arrested over 1 800 perpetrators and over 1 600 wanted suspects during the Operation Shanela between the 3rd and the 9th of June 2024. Police spokesperson colonel Cherelle Ehlers says these wanted suspects were arrested in connection with serious crimes such as business robbery, murder, rape, assault GBH, and illegal possession of firearms burglary and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  Ehlers says 4 unlicensed liquor outlets were closed and a significant amount of alcohol was confiscated. She says, a considerable amount of drugs and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime and copper cable were also seized. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
