The South African Police Service says they visited several
schools across the province namely Douglas, Warrenton, Kakamas, Pofadder,
Port Nolloth, De Aar, Marydale, Kuruman, Petrusville, Plooysburg and Van
Zylsrus this week as part of child protection week commemorations. Police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Sergio Kock says
learners were reminded of basic safety hints and of their right to be
protected, treated with dignity, not to be human-trafficked, to be able to go
to school, to be cared for and not to be treated cruelly. Kock says the children
were told to protect and respect their bodies and that of others. He says they
were compelled to break the silence and speak out if they knew of anyone who is
being abused.
