Police arrested suspects in all 5 districts

The South African Police Service reports the arrest of 234 individuals, including 119 wanted suspects, across five districts of the Northern Cape during Operation Shanela, which took place from May 27th to June 2nd, 2024. Police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers stated that detectives apprehended these suspects for involvement in grave offenses, including murder, rape, assault, and unlawful possession of firearms. Ehlers says additional arrests were made for drug dealing, illegal liquor trading, drug possession, murder, attempted murder, attempted rape, assault, and burglary. Furthermore, five unlicensed liquor establishments were shut down, and a substantial quantity of alcohol was seized. Reports also indicate the confiscation of drugs and money, suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
