A 6 year prison sentence was handed down by the Calvinia regional court to a 23 year old man Angelo De Vries following the statutory rape of a 15 year old girl in Calvinia.The sentence was suspended for 5 years. Police spokesperson Lieutenant colonel Sergio Kock says the accused had an intimate relationship with the victim and when she became pregnant the matter was reported to the police. Kock says the accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name is to be recorded in the national sexual offenders register.
