Police in ZF Mgcawu district urged members of the community to use fire wisely during this winter. This after the body of a 50 year old man Elister Beukes was discovered after his shanty caught fire while he was inside. According to a police statement, the incident happed in Rosedale, Upington on the 15th of May 2024. Police spokesperson sergeant Omphile Masegela says the man was declared dead on the scene and it is alleged that the deceased was alone inside his shanty when the fire started. Masegela says the neighbours allegedly tried to extinguish the fire without any success. She says the cause of the fire and circumstances around the death will be determined with further investigations. Police investigations continue.
