to a News24 article published in May 2024, many young people in South Africa
are struggling with high unemployment rates, resorting to different ways to
obtain money. With unemployment rates for youth reaching record highs according
to StatsSA, many feel forgotten by society and are worried about their future
prospects.
Youth in
Port Nolloth, a fishing and mining hub, has been impacted by global economic
changes, leaving its younger generation without stable employment. Chanel Jaar,
representative for Environmental Trades, a youth organisation calls for
immediate intervention and support from the South African government, stating
that decisions need to be made with youth being presently involved, she goes on
