Henry Niewenhoudt, a 33-year-old man, received a 12-year prison sentence from the Calvinia regional court for raping a 35-year-old woman on March 17, 2022. The court determined that Niewenhoudt forcibly assaulted the victim while they were together at a friend’s house, subjecting her to repeated acts of sexual violence. Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam confirmed the accused’s guilt and specified that he was convicted on two counts of rape. Additionally, the court ordered that Niewenhoudt’s name be entered into the national register for sex offenders and declared him ineligible to possess a firearm.
