Africa month celebrations coincides with the commemoration of 30 Years of Freedom in South Africa.

Government Communication and Information System says the country will mark Africa Month and Africa Day in May 2024, along with the rest of the continent. According to the GCIS, the month is an opportunity to promote African unity, deeper regional integration and recommit Africa to a common destiny. Furthermore, Africa month and Africa day are moments for the continent to pause, reflect, and celebrate the countries unique African identity and cultural expression. GCIS states that the celebrations also coincide with the commemoration of 30 Years of Freedom in South Africa. This year Africa Month will be commemorated under the theme: “Celebrating 30 Years of Freedom: Building a Better Africa and a Better World’’. Planned activities over the month will culminate with Africa Day celebrations on 25 May 2024.
