Three
thousand learners from 31 high schools across the Ga-Segonyana Local
Municipality gathered for the two-day Phunya Tsela Career Expo underway at the
Thabo Moorosi Multipurpose Centre in Mothibistad. The career expo, led by Kasi
Career Expo, one of South Africa’s leading township and rural schools-focused
career expos, has partnered with the John Taolo Gaetsewe Developmental Trust,
Assmang Mines, and the Northern Cape Department of Education to showcase
opportunities beyond mining, targeting disadvantaged learners in the John Taolo
Gaetsewe District Municipality. According to information, the career expo is
the first of a series of interventions to support and complement the Department
of Basic Education's efforts to provide a school-to-job market pathway for
learners and increase their uptake of various opportunities. The department
states that the initiative aims to be a gateway to access careers across
various sectors. The career expo is concluded today.
