Coghsta to hand over 5700 greenfields housing project

The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) is scheduled to hand over the Kathu 5 700 Greenfields Project by Gap Infrastructure Corporation (GIC), on Tuesday 07 May 2024, in Kathu in the Gamagara Local Municipal area. Babalwa Mzambo spokesperson to the department says, the kathu 5700 project is designed for the installation of civil services on over 5000 stands. She says the scope of work which includes the construction of an internal water reticulation network, sewer network, construction of gravel roads and gravel stormwater was completed by GIC on behalf of the Northern Cape Provincial Government in March 2024. Mzambo notes that this is the biggest project completed in GIC history and is an effort to address a backlog of 79 320 housing units arising from 162 informal settlements in the province.
