Police arrested 289 suspects during operation Shanela II

Provincial police continues to intensify its crime-fighting efforts through operation Shanela II operations, resulting in the arrest of 289 suspects across the province between the 5th and the 11th October 2026. Police spokesperson warrant officer Molefi Shemane says the operations, conducted across all five districts in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies, form part of the ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal activities and strengthen police visibility as the SAPS ramps up its safer festive season operations. Shemane says with the festive season approaching, the SAPS is deploying more boots on the ground through intensified patrols, roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints and targeted crime prevention operations.
