Greyton Cloete received 18 years imprisonment for murder

Police in the Namakwa district welcomed the conviction and sentencing of a 27-year-old man Greyton Cloete for the murder and robbery of a 66-year-old man Edward Coetsee, a farmer from Kalkfontein Farm in Okiep. The incident occurred on the 12th November 2020 when two suspects allegedly entered the victim’s farmhouse and demanded money. Police spokesperson captain Ivan Magerman says the suspects attempted to take his personal belongings before brutally assaulting him, he sustained life-threatening injuries and was found and transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and the suspects fled the scene with his personal belongings. Magerman says the Springbok regional court recently sentenced Cloete to 20 years’ imprisonment for murder of which two years were suspended for five years and he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
