Young scientists showcase research at Eskom Expo

Young scientists from across the Northern Cape showcased their research and innovations at the Eskom Expo Kimberley Regional Science Fair at Sol Plaatje University on Saturday. The fair featured 120 projects presented by 162 learners from Grades 4 to 12 and TVET students. A total of 32 gold, 23 silver and 60 bronze medals were awarded.

Special awards went to Khayalethu Wababa of Kimberley Girls High School for Best Female Scientist, Chantelle Ngwenya of Emang Mmogo Comprehensive School for Best Energy Project, Marco and Adriano De Carvlho of De Aar High School for Best Innovation, and Christolene Vister of Bongani High School for Best Development Project.

St Patrick’s CBC was named the best-performing school, while Sol Plaatje University also recognised outstanding projects. Eskom says the expo aims to encourage young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to promote innovation and research.
