Police in partnership with AVBOB strengthened support for victims and survivors of GBVF in Kimberley

Police in the Northern Cape in partnership with AVBOB took a meaningful step towards strengthening support for victims and survivors of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) when the two organizations conducted a school outreach program at NJ Heyns school in Kimberley on the 13th August 2026. Police spokesperson colonel Cherelle Ehlers says the outreach program forms part of phase one of the rollout of the GBVF survivor support program in the Northern Cape, an initiative aimed not only at raising awareness, but also at reminding communities that behind every statistic is a person, a family and a life that deserves to be protected. Ehlers says brigadier Irene Kopeledi, provincial head of pro-active policing and deputy national chairperson of the SAPS women’s network acknowledged the partnership between SAPS and AVBOB, emphasizing that the fight against GBVF cannot be won by law enforcement alone.
