Government Departments and District Municipality Unite to Address Recent Storm That Affected DKM and Kai Garib Municipal Areas!!!
A recent meeting of the ZF Mgcawu District Disaster Management forum brought together stakeholders to
discuss the devastating impact of gale-force rains on communities within the
Dawid Kruiper and Kai !Garib municipalities. The meeting, marked the third gathering to address the crisis, with the next meeting
scheduled for Monday to provide updates on the progress made.
Andre Phete the acting municipality manager emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and private sectors in responding to floods, stating that governments cannot tackle the issue alone. To this end, private sector representatives have been invited to attend Monday's meeting.
Phete explained that the meeting was convened to gather input from various government departments on how best to assist affected communities within their respective mandates.
To provide relief to affected communities, SASSA will be distributing application forms for cash vouchers, with a deadline for submission set for Friday, March 14, 2025. Feedback on the progress made will be provided on Monday.
Meanwhile, Coghsta and the district municipality will be conducting joint inspections, with two building inspectors assessing damage to shelters and providing recommendations for restructuring. Public works will assist in ensuring road accessibility, while the Kai !Garib municipality will focus on road maintenance.
Although the
exact number of people affected by the flood is currently unknown, the
district municipality says it is working towards providing accurate feedback on Monday March
17, 2025.
