High-Speed Chase In Galeshewe Leads To Seizure Of Illegal Firearm And Ammunition
A 38-year-old male suspect was arrested in Galeshewe, Kimberley and and the police also recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition.
According to
authorities, the incident unfolded on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at
approximately 13:00, when SAPS members spotted a suspicious NW-registered
bakkie and attempted to flag it down. However, the vehicle sped off in the
direction of Galeshewe, prompting a high-speed chase.
A police statement indicates that during the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle threw a black bag containing a 9mm firearm and ammunition out of the window after which the bakkie crashed into a gate and a garage wall of a house in Galeshewe. The driver fled the scene, but the police managed to apprehend the 38-year-old male passenger.
The police are currently
searching for a person of interest, Mxolisi Vundisa, who may be able to provide
valuable information regarding the incident.
The 38-year-old
suspect is facing charges of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition,
malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, failing to stop
upon instruction of a police officer, resisting arrest, and defeating the ends
of justice. He is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon.
