Northern Cape State of the Province Address Debate Engages MECs and Political Parties
The Northern Cape State of the Province Address (SOPA) debate was held yesterday in Kimberley, where MECs and various political parties engaged in discussions and raised questions on different aspects of Premier Dr. Zamani Saul's SOPA, which took place this past Thursday.
MEC for Roads and Public Works, Fufe Makatong, participated in the debate and provided an overview of the progress and achievements of the department from the 2023/24 financial year. Makatong highlighted significant infrastructure developments, including 50 capital building projects completed and over 105 km of roads upgraded. The MEC also outlined land development efforts, with 40 land parcels identified, 12 of which were finalized for inclusive urban and rural transformation.
Furthermore, the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) was credited with creating 95,689 work opportunities over the past five years, achieving 92% of the initial target.
Zandisile Luphahla, spokesperson for the department, further elaborated on the department's initiatives and future goals.
