Scrap Metal Dealer Arrested for Possession of Stolen Goods in Jan Kempdorp
In a significant breakthrough in the fight against essential infrastructure damage, a 70-year-old scrap metal dealer was arrested in Jan Kempdorp on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, for being in possession of stolen property. The arrest followed a tip-off from the community, which led law enforcement officials to the suspect's premises.
A police statement indicates that thorough search of the property uncovered stolen items valued at approximately R30,000, including copper cables, copper pipes, solar panels, and floodlights. The police says the operation was carried out by a multi-disciplinary team, including the SAPS Provincial Firearms, Liquor and Second-Hand Goods unit, the Provincial Organized Crime unit, the Essential Infrastructure Task Team, and the Jan Kempdorp SAPS Designated Second-Hand Goods Officer.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Jan Kempdorp Magistrates Court soon. The SAPS has praised the community for their invaluable assistance in the investigation and continues to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities to help combat crime in the area.
