Empowering Consumers: World Consumer Rights Day on March 14, 2025
A call is made to churches and community leaders across the
Northern Cape to join the observation of World Consumer Rights Day on March 14,
2025, a pivotal occasion dedicated to raising awareness about consumer rights
and promoting ethical practices within the marketplace. This year’s theme, “Empowering
Consumers: Balancing Rights with Ethical Practices,” serves as a call to action
for communities to come together in support of consumer education and advocacy.
The Consumer Protection Authority in the province is at the helm,
taking important steps to ensure that individuals understand their rights as
consumers. The commission stated that with the support of the church community,
they can reach a wider audience and empower consumers to stand up for their
rights.
Consumers argues that consumers have fundamental rights that
must be respected, including the right to fair treatment, quality products, and
honest services. The body states that many individuals are unaware of these
rights, which can lead to exploitation and unfair practices in the marketplace.
