ZF Mgcawu District Community Raised Concern Over Internet
Community members in the ZF Mgcawu District have voiced concerns over the high cost of internet data, highlighting the challenges of digital access in rural areas. This follows remarks by Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) CEO Sy Mamabolo, who stated that e-voting can only be successful if all South Africans have reliable internet access.
Mamabolo made the comments during the opening of the e-voting conference in Cape Town, a three-day event bringing together political leaders, decision-makers, business representatives, civil society, and the public to discuss the feasibility of electronic voting in South Africa.
While e-voting is being explored as a potential future election system, Mamabolo acknowledged that rural communities still face significant barriers in accessing digital technology. As discussions continue, many in the ZF Mgcawu District remain concerned about the affordability of internet services and its impact on digital inclusion.
