Community Members Raised Concern Over VAT Increase

Community members in the ZF Mgcawu District have expressed concern over the proposed increase in Value Added Tax (VAT). This comes after the Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) led a march to government offices in Pretoria’s Church Square on Monday, 10 March 2025, opposing the potential tax hike.

The demonstration follows the postponement of last month’s national budget speech, which was initially set to be delivered by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana. The budget was tabled in Cape Town today, 12 March 2025, at 14:00.

Several parties within the Government of National Unity (GNU) have rejected the proposed 2% VAT increase, arguing that it would place additional financial strain on South Africans. As anticipation builds around the budget announcement, communities across the country, including in ZF Mgcawu, are closely watching developments that could impact their cost of living.
