Petrusville Murder Accused Sentenced to 15 Years Imprisonment

Regional Court sentenced Katrina Lumkwana to 15 years in prison for the murder
of her partner, Freek Witbooi. The incident occurred on May 21, 2024, when
Lumkwana stabbed Witbooi in the stomach, leading to his hospitalization. After
Witbooi succumbed to his injuries on June 8, 2024, Lumkwana's charges were
upgraded from attempted murder to murder.
The court's decision was welcomed by the Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, who praised the collaborative efforts of Detective Constable Johnny Nell and the State Prosecutor in ensuring justice for victims of gender-based violence and femicide.
