MEC Bentley Vass Engages JTG District on R1 Billion Housing Project

The MEC for COGHSTA, Bentley Vass, visited the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District Municipality on 8 March 2025 to oversee and engage in a series of human settlements programmes.

According to an official statement from the department, MEC Vass began the day by meeting with JTG District Executive Mayor Councillor Mogatle-Thoane, District Speaker Councillor Aiseng, Councillors from Joe Morolong, and Kgosikgolo Hastings Jantjie. The discussions focused on the R1 billion housing project in the district.

Following the meeting, two individual houses were handed over to the Nkgari and Mothobi families in Churchill, Joe Morolong Municipality. The MEC, accompanied by municipal leadership, then proceeded to Perth and Heuningvlei to inspect the progress of the housing project in these areas.

The visit concluded with a community engagement session at the Heuningvlei Community Hall, where 200 housing beneficiaries met with the MEC and Kgosikgolo Pule Bareki, joined by Joe Morolong Local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Leutlwetse-Tshabalala.

To ensure the timely completion of the project, a commitment was made for ongoing collaboration between the Department of COGHSTA, the Traditional Council, and both the District and Local Municipalities. The MEC will receive weekly progress reports, and the Human Settlements Team will work closely with contractors to ensure adherence to project timelines.
