Northern Cape Human Rights Commission to Commemorate Women’s Rights in March
March is annually dedicated to recognizing the rights afforded to South Africans by the Constitution. In line with this, the Northern Cape Provincial Office (NCPO) of the Human Rights Commission will host a commemoration event focusing on women’s rights, coinciding with International Women’s Day, which is observed during this month.
According to Buyisile July from the commission, the event aims to highlight key issues affecting women, including leadership, economic empowerment, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. While significant progress has been made in advancing women’s rights, challenges such as gender-based violence, economic disparities, limited access to leadership positions, and violations of reproductive rights persist.
Various stakeholders are expected to participate in the event, with Prof. Thuli Madonsela delivering the keynote address.
The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 12 March 2025, from 09:00 in Upington.
