Northern Cape Green Economy Project Set to Gain Momentum
The Northern Cape Economic Development Agency has announced that the province’s green economy project will be in full swing within the next five years.
Speaking to the SABC, Shaun Modise, Acting CEO of the Agency, emphasized the significant progress made in this mega project, as the province and its partners work to strengthen the feasibility study for the first 5-gigawatt operation, in collaboration with companies such as Sasol.
The agency says this initiative, a joint effort between the three Cape provinces, aims to create a coordinated strategy to harness the potential of green hydrogen in the region. Addressing the impact of climate change, Modise stated that this project aligns with global efforts to transition industries, lower carbon emissions, and pave the way for a sustainable future.
Once completed, the project is expected to produce at least 400 kilotons of hydrogen annually and generate approximately 7,500 job opportunities.
