The Northern Cape department of Social Development officially launched the non-profit organization, Sandla Soncedo Soup Kitchen in Sutherland yesterday. This launch was part of the departments nutrition programs. The department says in a statement this soup kitchen is funded by the department and is equipped to provide cooked meals to between 200 and 250 people on a daily basis. The launch of this soup kitchen was reportedly led by the acting head of the department Shouneez Kimmie-Wookey who on behalf of the department handed over a cheque to the value of over R200 000 to the management of this soup kitchen as the departments contribution towards the day to day functioning of the soup kitchen.
