Sol Plaatje University Launches High Performance Sports Centre

On November 22, 2024, Sol Plaatje University celebrated the inauguration of its High-Performance Sport Centre at the South Campus Sport Precinct. This event marks a significant milestone for the Northern Cape, introducing a top-tier sports facility that caters to SPU students and empowers the surrounding communities. Nicole Morris, Dean of Student Affairs, highlighted the centre's goal to boost the Northern Cape's sports competitiveness, transform lives, enhance student wellness, foster athletic prowess, and bolster school sports development in the area. Morris says the centre is envisioned as a beacon of innovation and cooperation, providing athletes with elite training amenities and offering the local youth and communities opportunities to engage in wellness programs, coaching clinics, and sophisticated sports infrastructure. Morris says centre will feature a diverse range of facilities, including a sports hall with seating for 1,000, a sport science gym, and specialized areas for research, biokinetics, and sports medicine. Additionally, the outdoor facilities will encompass rugby, hockey, and cricket fields, along with multipurpose courts for a variety of sports.
