Community members in Upington are encouraged to report any instances of violence against women and children to the appropriate authorities. This call to action comes in the wake of Deputy President Paulus Mashatile's attendance at the national launch of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign in Rustenburg on the 25th of November, 2024. The campaign this year is themed “30 years of advancing collective action to end violence against women and children,” with a focus on “Harnessing technology and innovation to combat gender-based violence and accelerate a gender-inclusive digital economy." Mashatile said the following:

Additionally, both StatsSA and the Human Sciences Research Council have released alarming statistics on gender-based violence in South Africa. According to StatsSA, one in three women over the age of 16 has suffered physical violence, and one in five has been a victim of sexual abuse.
