Hull Street Housing Project

The Hull Street Project, a housing initiative started by the Coghsta department in 2022, reportedly experienced an eight-month halt since March 2024 due to administrative issues. The department says this project aims to reduce the housing shortage in the province and combat unemployment by allocating 30% of the project's value to employing local workers and subcontractors. The department addressed these challenges in an official statement and announced the project's resumption. It is reported that the original principal contractor, Amandla Building and Construction, stopped their work due to disputes with the South Africa Swedish International Housing Company (SASIHC), leading to the appointment of a new contractor, MOAGO Constructions, who took over the site last week. The handover was facilitated by SHRA and SASIHC. Work is set to begin next month, focusing on site preparation, with the project expected to take 8-9 months, aiming for completion by the end of October. The first phase is projected to deliver 372 housing units.
