In a concerted effort with other government agencies, the police took decisive action against priority crimes such as firearms offenses, murder, rape, and robberies within the province. According to Police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the operation, which ran from November 11 to November 17, 2024, involved disruptive measures like roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints, high-visibility patrols, and stop-and-search tactics, resulting in the search of 4,063 individuals and 2,089 vehicles. Colonel Ehlers reports that compliance checks were carried out at liquor stores, second-hand goods dealers, scrapyards, and recycling centers. Furthermore, to enhance food safety, inspections at informal businesses and spaza shops were stepped up, leading to the shutdown of 18 illegal liquor outlets and the seizure of a substantial quantity of alcohol.
