The Information
Regulator, in partnership with the Northern Cape Provincial Government,
Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality, and the Government Communication and
Information System, will host two key events in Upington to raise
awareness about the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the
Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), while also marking National
Disability Rights Awareness Month. The first event, a Dikopano (Community
Engagement), will take place on 14 November 2024 at the Raaswater Community
Hall in Upington. This session will focus on raising awareness about privacy,
personal information protection, and access to information, with exhibitions
from regulatory bodies and public agencies. The event will be led by IR
Chairperson Adv. Pansy Tlakula and Dawid Kruiper Executive Mayor Mr. Michael
Segede. On 15 November, a Stakeholder Engagement Breakfast will bring together
public and private sector organizations that regularly handle POPIA and PAIA to
discuss ways to improve compliance and implementation. In addition to these
events, the IR will conduct public awareness activations in Upington and
Raaswater, and offer an online training session for Civil Society Organisations
and Information Officers in the province.
