The National Council of and for Persons Living with Disabilities, an NPO that makes significant contributions to shaping South Africa into a country where persons with disabilities have access to equitable opportunities and rights will this weekend begin engaging in their annual awareness program in observance of National Disability Rights Awareness Month which is observed from the 3 November to the 3 December. Radio Riverside spoke to Therine   Wentzel a director of the organization, to find out the range of awareness programs they will be engaged in during the coming weeks including the nappy run on November 29, 2024 in Upington. Wentzel elaborates:

Wentzel also gave her view on the stereotypes that are often associated with people living with disabilities and how communities should do better and refrain from engaging when communicating with people with disabilities:

Wentzel says they are currently in collaboration with other stakeholders looking into the establishment of a school for disabled children in Upington thus making provision for the accommodation of the needs of children in Upington who tend to be let out as the only school for disabled children is in Kimberley which is out of reach for many.
