As the festive season nears, some Upington community members express concern that they may not be able to afford food due to soaring prices. The October 2024 household affordability index reveals that the cost of an average household food basket is estimated at R5,348.65, which is R92.97 higher than the previous month and R51.07 more than the previous year. This index monitors the prices of 44 essential food items across 47 supermarkets and 32 butcheries.
