The Special Investigation Unit in the Northern Cape is currently conducting a search and seizure operation at the Dawid Kruiper municipal offices. This operation follows the allegations of maladministration in Dawid Kruiper local municipality contracts. According to an official statement by the SIU on the 20 September 2024 , the unit was authorised through proclamation 185 of 2024 by president Cyril ramaphosa with a specific focus put on the alleged maladministration in 24 Dawid Kruiper local municipality contracts and for the unit to also recover any financial losses suffered by the state or the municipality. According to Fagmi Rajab an official at the SIU the unit has been legally authorized by way of a warrant to search and seize all documentations relevant to their investigation and started their operation from 08:30 this morning.
