The South African Aviation Authority Promotes Gender Equality Within The Industry

Phindile Gwebu, the Executive for Corporate Services at the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), shared with Radio Riverside SACAA's advancements in celebrating Women's Month. Gwebu says the focus was on SACAA's efforts to bridge gender transformation gaps within the aviation sector and to enhance gender equality and diversity. Gwebu highlighted that historically, the aviation industry in the country employed only males, but SACAA's gender equality initiatives have led to increased female participation in the industry, now at 19.6%.Insert - Gwebu1Gwebu mentioned that SACAA's initiatives particularly target young women and girls in grades 9 and 10, encouraging them to select subjects like science, mathematics, and English. She says this would increase their eligibility for aviation studies and the chance to receive SACAA's newly introduced bursaries. She urged students nationwide to apply, with a special call to young girls from the Northern Cape, noting that applications from this province are notably fewer than from other provinces.Insert - Gwebu 2
