Northern Cape MEC responsible for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development & Land Reform, Mme Mase Manopole, has called on farmers to contribute positively to growing the provincial economy. This call was made by MEC Manopole as she was speaking at the Saamtrek & Saamwerk Farmers Business Conference held in Kimberley in the Frances Baard District Municipality. During her address, Manopole noted that she was impressed that Saamtrek & Saamwerk farmers viewed farming not as a hobby, but rather as a serious business, as it has the potential to create more job opportunities and grow the economy. The department states that the MEC acknowledged that the country's economy faces many challenges; hence the call for farmers to contribute. Furthermore, information indicates that Manopole shared with farmers that, despite the economic woes in the country, "China has shown an interest in local lucerne because of its quality, and thus there is a call on farmers to form joint ventures, as it is critical for this to be successful."
