The
South African Social Security Agency has rolled out a new biometric
verification process aimed at safeguarding beneficiaries from fraudulent
activities. SASSA says this initiative is part of their broader effort to enhance
security and protect clients from scammers. The biometric verification system,
which includes advanced facial recognition technology, is designed to ensure
that only authorized individuals can access client records. By implementing
this process, SASSA aims to significantly reduce instances of identity theft
and fraudulent payments. The agency says, in cases where identity theft is suspected, affected
clients will receive detailed instructions during their interaction with the
Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress system. Beneficiaries in Upington and the surrounding are encouraged to complete the biometric verification process to avoid
any disruption in their grant payments. SASSA says the introduction of biometric verification marks a significant step in enhancing
the security of social grant systems and protecting vulnerable individuals from
financial fraud.
