Koda Association Tackles Poverty with Innovative Food Garden Project

Leaders of the Koda Association have taken a proactive approach to addressing the rising poverty levels in their community. They have established a food garden project, which has reportedly shown promising results in its first trial run. According to Francois Booysen, Treasurer of Koda, the project spans 2000 square meters and has received funding from Arnel Green and CCM. The team aims to complete the contract by August 15, 2024. The organization says, the food garden will serve multiple purposes. They say the first harvest will be used in the local soup kitchen the second batch will be sold to local groceries, the third batch will be distributed to community members through the outreach program: Insert - Local BusinessesThe social enterprise also has field workers who assist residents in need, providing food distribution three times a week. To qualify, community members undergo a house visit evaluation to assess their basic needs. They are then enrolled in a three-month program: Insert - Venesse Isaacs
