The Northern
Cape Gambling and Liquor Board recently organised an education and awareness
campaign in Victoria West, Carnarvon, Loxton, Williston and Vosburg. The aim of
the campaign was to educate the public about the risks associated with alcohol
and gambling addictions. Johanna Oss from the NCGLB education and awareness
unit stated that they addressed a variety of social ills such as binge and underaged drinking, driving under the influence of alcohol and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The CEO of the NCGLB, Vincent Mothibi said
that the main aspect of the campaign is to address the new Northern Cape
Gambling and Liquor Act 6 of 2024 to the community members, gambling and liquor
traders and the SAPS whereby the act provides the establishment of an
integrated entity to administer the functioning of the board, regulate gambling
and liquor licenses and promote the responsible consumption of liquor in the
Northern Cape to mitigate the socio-economic problems emanating from alcohol
abuse. Oss says the NCGLD says it is planning on hosting a roadshow in Upington,
Keimoes and Kakamas in August 2024.
