Following extreme weather conditions hitting the Namakwa district area this winter season the MEC for the department of roads and public works Fufe Makatong has urged visitors and road users in the Karroo highland area to be vigilant and drive safely following snow forecasts being made for Sutherland and Calvinia which has caused the roads to be icy and slippery this past weekend. The MEC however welcomes all visitors to the province as numbers appear to increase with visitors coming to the province to view the snow. The South African Weather Service have also warned against Damaging waves that could lead to damage to coastal infrastructure in Port Nolloth in the Richtersveld local municipal area.
