The Acting District Commissioner's Office of ZF Mgcawu says the police confiscated 243 bottles of illicit brewed beer, valued at over R4 800, from an unlicensed brewery. The police says the seized alcohol was destroyed, and the owner received a fine. Furthermore, two illegal establishments were closed, and alcohol worth R2 400 was seized. Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock says a 54-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were arrested for breaching the Northern Cape Liquor Act. The SAPS has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized sale of alcohol, particularly by tuck-shops, as it provides minors with easy access to alcohol. Kock sys this crackdown is part of the SAPS's proactive approach to addressing substance abuse and its connection to crime. He says by focusing on illegal alcohol sellers, the police aim to restrict access to alcohol and, as a result, decrease crime in the area. Citizens are urged to report any illegal alcohol sales to the authorities.
