The department of cooperative governance and human settlements have recently given feedback on the progress made with the R1billion housing project for the Northern Cape which was initially scheduled to commence on the 1st of April 2024. The department provides in an official statement that project encountered delays due to administrative and technical issues however, the departments directorate within the provincial office has been diligently working to overcome these obstacles and propel the project forward. The department says that procurement processes have been successfully concluded in four of the five regions with only the John Taolo Gaestewe region pending completion, expected during the current week. The department say that because of the delay it is only by August 6, 2024, that all contractors are anticipated to have established sites and be prepared to initiate construction. The construction phase is projected to span 6-8 months, with all work slated for completion by the end of March 2025. Spokesperson of the department Babalwa Mzambo says for the ZF Mgcawu district area, the progress in beneficiary administration completed is for a total 267 out of 500 units while the department is still working on completing the rest.
