Three Grade 11 students from Carlton-Van Heerden recently took part in the regional Green Opportunities Challenge, presenting their Solar-Powered Streetlights project. According to a statement by the department of education, Sibusiso Gumbi, Sanmary Estherhuizen, and Khanyisa Makoti, hailing from Upington and known by their team name, the Blue Bulls, were selected to advance to the national competition. The department says, competing against seven other teams, these young climate change champions are preparing to present their project to a panel of judges at the national finals in Cape Town, attended by supporters of the green economy ecosystem. Representing the Northern Cape, they are currently competing in the final stage of the competition.
