The Department of Transport & Liaison took part in the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking in Prieska yesterday June 26, 2024, which was organised by the Department of Social Development. The department says, in an effort to raise awareness about drug usage, the United Nations designated June 26 as World Drug Day in 1987. According to the department, a number of stakeholders, including the Central Drug Authority, SAPS, CPF, SALGA, and the Siyathemba Local Municipality, which is led by Mayor Xolile Phillips, attended the ceremony. Prieska's youth organised a townwide march to raise awareness of drug misuse and illegal trafficking. Educating young people about the risks of drug use and getting their opinions was the last aspect of commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking. The Local Community Policing Forum, Youth Against Crime, and all the Provincial Substance Abuse Forum partners facilitated the conversation.
