Department of Roads and Public Works makes way for employment for 31 youth from schmidtsdrift

The Department of roads and public works in the northern cape recently announced that under the auspices of the National Youth Services (NYS) Programme, it has since April 2024 been training 31 unemployed youth from Schmidtsdrift (19 females and 12 males) in Construction Roadworks. The department says that under this program these Youth are trained to conduct pothole and edge break repairs, reseal and fog sprays, repair un-surfaced road shoulders and paint road markers. The training also includes the adherence to occupational health and safety standards on sites, conducting basic first aid and road safety. The department says that upon completion of the Short Skills Programme the learners will obtain 45 credits from the full qualification of Road Construction Maintenance NQF Level 2.
